At Abba we work principally with Edbro and Hyva as our tipping gear manufacturers and suppliers. This is no accident, both manufactures provide high quality equipment and excellent back up. We make no distinction financially between them, and leave the choice to you, the customer.
Hyva specialise in "front end" tipping gears, and offer an inbuilt load cell system which can be retro fitted, an advantage to some customers. Edbro offer both "front end" and stabilised "under-floor" gears.
Both suppliers offer very competitive Tare weights, which dependant on individual chassis bracketry are in the region of 530Kgs wet.
High quality, good back up and low weight make the two suppliers ideal partners for Abba and the Predator body.
Front end or stabilised under-floor?
There are benefits to both, and likewise disadvantages, at the end of the day both work and we have no strong feelings in either direction. The UK eight wheeler market is still principally front end, however there are numerous fleets who very much prefer under-floor. The basic advantages and disadvantages are as follows:
Front end advantages
- Lower price
- Lower weight ( the initial weight of under-floor gear may be marginally lighter, but the additional under-frame required to tip from under the body makes it heavier)
- Lower hydraulic working pressure
- Lower body centre of gravity
- Lower loading height
- Easy maintenance access
Stabilised under-floor advantages
- Improved stability (depending on who you listen to!)
- Improved gearbox access
